Disclosure: Abivo is our product. Facts about Sage Intacct come from Sage's own product pages and help documentation as of October 2026. Sources are listed at the end.

The short answer: Sage Intacct automates the record-keeping side of accounts receivable well. It handles recurring and emailed invoices, customer aging and dashboards, and it has dunning levels that let you print or email escalating notices. Sage's help documentation describes sending dunning notices as a task a user runs by choosing a dunning level, and each notice covers the current entity only. What it does not describe is calling or texting customers. If your collectors spend the week on follow-up conversations, that is the part you automate with an add-on.

This guide covers what Sage Intacct does natively for AR automation, a sensible setup order, where the native tools stop, and how to decide whether your team needs AR automation software on top. If you already want an add-on, see our comparison of AR automation software for Sage Intacct.

What Sage Intacct Automates Natively in Accounts Receivable

Sage's accounts receivable product page names these capabilities, among others:

  • Recurring invoices and email invoicing, so regular billing goes out without manual work.

  • Automated dunning and collection notices, built on dunning levels (more below).

  • Customer aging, configurable dashboards and reports, so collectors and controllers can see what is overdue.

  • Sage Intacct Collections, which Sage lists as part of its AR offering.

  • Configurable approvals and customer document attachments.

If you want to size the overdue balance outside Sage Intacct first, here is how to export an AR aging report from Sage Intacct.

How Dunning Works in Sage Intacct

  • Dunning levels define a range of days overdue and invoice amounts for each collection stage, for example 31 to 60 days, 61 to 90 and 91 to 120.

  • Each level can use its own printed document template, so wording can get firmer as an account ages.

  • Sending is a task you run. Per Sage's help, a user goes to Accounts Receivable, chooses Print or email, adds dunning notices, picks a dunning level and filters, then chooses print, email or both for each customer. Printed notices download as a PDF, and emailed notices can be checked in the email delivery log.

  • Notices cover the current entity only. Sage's help states that dunning notices include overdue invoices from the current entity only, which matters for multi-entity companies.

  • Tracking shows how many notices each customer received and which invoices were included.

How to Automate AR in Sage Intacct, Step by Step

1. Clean up the aging

Apply open payments and credits and merge duplicate customers before any reminder goes out. A notice to a customer who already paid costs more goodwill than it recovers.

2. Set up recurring and emailed invoices

The fastest collections win is an invoice that arrives on time with the right PO and contact. Move regular billing to recurring invoices and email delivery.

3. Define dunning levels per segment

Build two or three levels with templates that match how your customers like to be addressed. Keep your largest accounts for a person rather than a notice.

4. Put the dunning run on a calendar

Because notices are sent when someone runs them, give one person a fixed weekly slot per entity. Skipped weeks are where DSO creeps up.

5. Give collectors a worklist

Use aging reports and dashboards so each collector starts the day with the accounts that need a call, sorted by amount and age.

6. Measure where the hours go

After a month, check how much of the week goes to calls and follow-up emails. That is the work native Sage Intacct leaves with your team.

When Does a Sage Intacct Team Need AR Automation Software?

  • Three or more people do collections, and most of their time is routine follow-up.

  • Customers ignore notices and pay after a phone call.

  • You run several entities and the dunning run per entity keeps slipping.

  • Promises to pay are tracked in inboxes and spreadsheets.

  • The plan to lower DSO is to hire another collector.

If that sounds like your team, compare the options in our guide to the best AR automation and collections software for Sage Intacct.

Where Abivo Fits on Top of Sage Intacct

Abivo is built for the follow-up conversation that dunning notices start but do not finish. Its AI agent, Kate, calls, texts and emails customers about overdue invoices, in your company's brand. Reminders name the job, site, PO or billing period from the invoice, and one message can cover all open invoices on an account. Kate captures promises to pay, disputes and next steps on each conversation, and hands disputes, refusals and requests for a person to your team. You can set the cadence per account or segment, pause follow-up on a single invoice, and take over any customer at any time.

Abivo connects to Sage Intacct and can keep customers, invoices and sender name separate by Sage Intacct entity. See how Abivo works with Sage Intacct across multiple entities, read the OFS Group case study, or get started to see Kate on your own overdue accounts.

Practical Takeaways

  • Sage Intacct covers invoicing, aging, dashboards and dunning notices natively.

  • Dunning notices are sent when a user runs them, per dunning level and per entity, so schedule the run.

  • Clean the aging and segment customers before you write templates.

  • Calls and texts to customers are the gap; that is where an AI collections agent helps most.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Sage Intacct have built-in AR automation?

Yes. Sage lists recurring invoices, email invoicing, automated dunning, collection notices, customer aging and configurable dashboards among its accounts receivable features.

How do dunning notices work in Sage Intacct?

You define dunning levels by days overdue and invoice amount, each with its own template. A user then runs Print or email for a chosen level and sends notices by print, email or both. Notices include overdue invoices from the current entity only.

Can Sage Intacct call customers about overdue invoices?

Sage's dunning documentation describes printed and emailed notices, not phone calls or text messages. Teams that want calls automated add a tool such as Abivo.

What is the best AR automation software for Sage Intacct?

It depends on your bottleneck. For routine follow-up by phone, text and email, Abivo is built for that job. For portals, cash application or credit management, see our Sage Intacct AR automation software comparison.
