Disclosure: Abivo is our product. Facts about other tools come from their own websites as of October 2026.

The short answer: If your aging report is full of overdue invoices that nobody has time to chase, especially cross-border ones, Abivo takes that follow-up: its AI agent, Kate, calls, texts and emails customers about overdue invoices in your company's name, in any currency, and hands disputes to your team with the full history. Abivo is built in Toronto. If you want a customer payment portal and cash application alongside collections, look at Versapay. If you bill in many currencies and want payments and AR in one system, look at Invoiced. If you are a larger, multi-site business with French-speaking teams, look at Esker. If you want Canadian customers paying by EFT and US customers by ACH, look at Paystand. If you are a small business that mainly needs to send invoices and pull payments by EFT or pre-authorized debit, look at Plooto.

Canadian AR has its own shape. Many Canadian B2B companies sell heavily into the US, so one ledger carries CAD and USD invoices, sometimes for the same customer group. Customers sit from Atlantic Canada to the West Coast and across US time zones. Some payables contacts, particularly in Quebec, prefer to deal in French. And cross-border invoices often go to the wrong inbox or stall while a US customer finishes vendor setup. We cover the wider picture in our guide to collections software in Canada.

Abivo

Abivo is AI collections software built in Toronto that works on top of the accounting system you already use. Kate, its AI agent, calls, texts and emails customers about overdue invoices in your company's name. Abivo works with customers in over 50 countries and in any currency, so a USD invoice to a customer in Texas and a CAD invoice to a customer in Halifax sit in the same workflow. You set the cadence per account or segment, so cross-border accounts and domestic accounts can get different treatment.

Reminders name the invoice details your customer needs to find the bill, such as the PO, job, site or billing period, which matters when an invoice has gone to the wrong inbox. One message can cover every open invoice on an account. Kate records promises to pay, disputes and next steps, and hands disputes and requests to speak with a person to your AR team with the full history. You can pause any single invoice while a question is worked out, and flag key accounts so a named owner handles them. Multi-entity teams keep each subsidiary separate, which suits a Canadian parent with a US entity.

Abivo connects with QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP and Chargebee, or an aging report export. See the integrations page. It does not replace your accounting system, invoicing, payment processing or cash application. OFS Group, a fire protection contractor, collected $842,518 in its first four months with Abivo (case study). For how the calls work, read about AI collections calls.

Choose it when: your team cannot reach every overdue account, cross-border invoices age longest, and you want follow-up that runs every day without adding collectors.

Versapay

Versapay describes itself as a "unified invoice-to-cash solution." Its collections product includes risk segments, a visual dunning template editor, prioritized task lists, team workload management and escalation to a collections manager with context. Its site says custom workflows let collectors "use different languages across different regions," which is relevant for teams with French-speaking customers. A customer portal lets buyers view invoices, store payment methods, set up payment plans and log disputes.

Versapay's ties to Canada are stated on its own site: the trademark is owned by Versapay ULC in Canada and the United States, and its wholesale distribution page features a Würth Canada case study on mobile check processing.

Choose it when: you want collections, a customer portal and cash application in one platform, and you have the team to run a broader rollout.

Invoiced

Invoiced, now part of Flywire, describes itself as an "AI-native invoice-to-cash platform for B2B finance teams." Its Smart Chasing feature gives each account its own playbook and, per its site, adjusts outreach based on each customer's payment behavior. The bigger draw for Canadian exporters is currency: the site says it can offer local payment options across 140+ currencies and 240+ countries and territories, with cross-border collection, currency conversion and reconciliation. A testimonial from iWave, a Canadian company, talks about the time it took to collect as a business in Canada.

Choose it when: many of your customers pay in currencies other than CAD and USD, and you want the payment experience and AR follow-up in one product.

Esker

Esker describes its AR software as combining "Esker Synergy AI and intuitive collaboration tools." Collections uses AI-driven predictions and risk analysis to prioritize tasks. Its site says the product is designed for global organizations with support for multiple languages, multiple sites and multiple currencies, and Esker publishes a full French-language version of its website. Collections sits inside a wider order-to-cash suite that includes credit management and cash application.

Choose it when: you are a larger organization with several sites or entities, French-speaking finance staff or customers, and an appetite for a broader order-to-cash project.

Paystand

Paystand describes itself as an "Agentic B2B Payment Network." Its site says it supports Canadian operations with "CAD EFT and cross-border support," so Canadian payers can pay from their bank accounts by EFT while US payers pay by ACH. Its collections automation page describes automated invoice reminders with payment links, follow-ups based on payment status, and rules-based escalations. It lists ERP connectors including NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Sage 300, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Acumatica and Xero.

Choose it when: getting paid is mostly a payment method problem, and you want CAD EFT, US ACH and reminders tied to the same network.

Plooto

Plooto calls itself an accounts payable and accounts receivable platform for businesses "across Canada and the United States." On the AR side it sends invoices, sets up recurring payments, pulls funds via ACH or EFT, supports pre-authorized debit agreements and card payments, and syncs payments to QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite. Its AR page does not describe automated overdue reminders or collections workflows, so treat it as a way to get paid rather than a collections tool.

Choose it when: you are a small Canadian business that wants one place to pay bills and collect by EFT or pre-authorized debit, and overdue follow-up is a small part of the job.

How to choose

Start with your aging report, not a feature list. Sort it by currency and by country, and look at which invoices are oldest. For many Canadian companies, the US and overseas balances age longest because nobody is calling them. Then check each tool against the realities of Canadian AR:

  • Two currencies on one ledger: Can the tool follow up on CAD and USD invoices for the same customer group without manual splitting?

  • Cross-border customers: Does it reach US customers in their own time zone, and does it work for customers in other countries too?

  • Misdirected invoices and vendor setup: Do reminders include the PO, job, site or billing period so a US AP team can find the bill and finish onboarding?

  • French-speaking payers: If you have Quebec customers who prefer French, ask the vendor to show it, and only count what the vendor states.

  • Payment methods: Do Canadian customers want EFT or pre-authorized debit, and US customers ACH? Payments tools and collections tools solve different parts of that.

  • Entities: If you run a Canadian parent and a US subsidiary, can each entity stay separate?

  • Accounting system: Does it connect with what you run today, from QuickBooks Online and Xero to NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Business Central? See our QuickBooks and Xero pages.

  • Hand-offs: When a customer disputes an invoice, who gets it, and with what history? Our guide to resolving invoice disputes covers the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best collections software for a Canadian B2B company?

It depends on where your problem sits. If overdue invoices are not being followed up, Abivo's AI agent calls, texts and emails customers in your company's name in any currency. Versapay and Esker suit larger teams wanting a broader invoice-to-cash platform. Paystand and Plooto focus on how Canadian customers pay, such as EFT.

Can collections software handle both CAD and USD invoices?

Yes, several can. Abivo works with customers in over 50 countries and in any currency. Invoiced states support for 140+ currencies, and Esker states multi-currency support. Ask each vendor to show a customer with invoices in two currencies.

Is there collections software that sends reminders in French?

Esker states multi-language support and publishes a French version of its site, and Versapay says its workflows can use different languages across regions. For any vendor, ask for a live example of a French reminder before you buy.

How do Canadian companies collect from US customers who pay late?

Make the invoice easy to find and follow up consistently in the customer's time zone. Reminders should name the PO, job or billing period, and disputes should go to a person quickly. Abivo's Kate does this by phone, text and email and records promises to pay.

Does Abivo replace QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite?

No. Abivo connects with QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP and Chargebee, or an aging report export. It does not replace your accounting system, invoicing, payment processing or cash application.
